Plastics W. Graham (PWG) was established in 1952 by William Graham to provide various plastic materials locally, the company branched out into making labels, safety signs and safety equipment. In the 70’s the company began supplying the north sea oil industry and this resulted in supplies to the industry worldwide with their safety requirements whilst providing local and national requirements to industry in general.

1952

The business originated as D.I.Y. came into vogue and provided plastic materials and products locally. To use up remainders it was decided to start engraving resulting in labels and signs being produced. More materials were required in stock as the business developed. All processes were limited to manual one man operations. As other sign companies came into being we became a stockist with limited manufacturing capability.

60’s and 70’s

PWG moved premises to where we are now and joined the ICL Plastics Group based in Glasgow. We invested in more manufacturing equipment and began sign making and labelling supplying as far as Aberdeen as the oil industry developed in the North Sea. Computerised equipment became available in the late 70’s and we took delivery of the 4 the computerised machine in the country. Contracts were made with a major oil company for supplying signs and labels.

2000

Equipment was upgraded and material profiling and fabrication of plastics became possible. The included the bending, drilling and cementing of materials. Experiments were made with printing in full colour and applying it to materials. Printing of photographic images became possible and demand became more national for our services to industry and local authorities. We started supplying PVC wallets for permits and developed a range for our customers. There was a demand for portable barriers and we began to develop our own unique range. As demand increased we expanded in to the top floor of
our building.

2010

Progressively we introduced new production methods as they became available. Most processes are now computerised but still involve skill and knowledge to achieve the best results. We introduced a quality system approved to BS9001 which very few companies in the industry have been able to gain qualification for. The solvent printing on vinyl and chemical etching on metal processes were introduced successfully. The system of portable barriers was improved. Sales to other parts of the world increased.
We were now buying and selling worldwide as well as providing local and national services.

2020

After experimentation we looked at laser and 3d printing opportunities and elected to invest in the laser profiling and etching capabilities. This has expanded our range considerably and enabled more in-house production whilst expanding our market. Our website has been improved now with options to buy and a more comprehensive display of our products. We are always open for new challenges and have solved many customer problems over the past 70 years.
